Guest Post – Design Resource – Arcadian Home

Hi all! I’m Susi and a writer for Arcadian Home, a great place to find interior and exterior design inspirations, and home decor and lighting fixtures at terrific prices. I work as a guest blogger focusing on interior design, home furnishings and wall decor accessories for Arcadian Home. I get to look at gorgeous things all day long and write about them. I found Girl and the Abode’s blog and have been hooked ever since. I love how Lauren gives us a unique perspective of interiors and inspiring images to enjoy.

I loved searching for pretty spaces for this guest edition. From a sleeping nook to a Southern porch, these are some of the spaces that caught my eye with their lovely designs. Take a look and let me know what you think.

This sunroom designed by Steven Gambrel in a Tudor style home in upstate New York has a lovely balance of formal and rustic elements. I especially like the rustic coffee table in the mix.

This porch, designed by Castro Design Studio in Atlanta, feels like a living room with the fireplace focal point. Great skylights, along with a ceiling fan light kit, give the impression of the room being outside.

Designed by Gwen Driscoll, this library in a Kentucky home reminds me of the recent Jane Eyre movie. Love the dark, dramatic palette, velvet covered walls, and antique-looking chandelier.

The Letter Cottage designed this tiny nook of a room. It shows that even the small rooms in a home can be pretty spaces.

This lovely living room belongs to Ali Wentworth and George Stephanopoulous. Ali was on the Nate Berkus show recently and talked about how she created this gorgeous area rug using Rit Dye! I love it!

What a pretty open concept living space designed by Brian Watford ID. Love the layers of neutrals mixed with soft blue accents. The area rug and the matching floor lamps are gorgeous!

This library in a New York City apartment, designed by Cathy Triant Buxton, has gorgeous feminine soft pink walls that don’t feel overly girly. Paired with antiques, whimsical table decor, and interesting textiles, this is a lovely space.

This bedroom with gorgeous grey silk headboard is so serene and dreamy. Yellow and grey is a favorite color combination of mine and I like the muted version used in this bedroom.

Hotel Interior Inspiration – Le Royal Monceau

The Le Royal Monceau, in the forever fashionable Paris, is a stunner! So much inspiration here. All the Interiors were designed by the famous Philippe Starck. Just google his name, you will see about a hundred luxurious hotels he has designed. Unless you are Oprah or P Diddy ( does he still call himself that?) , I’m not sure who affords to stay here at a whopping $895.00 a night. However, I don’t feature hotels for traveling purposes. I feature them to inspire you to find decorative ideas for your own humble abode.

So decadent, modern and luxurious. The beauty of flipping through photos of outrageously expensive hotels, you can take away tons of inspirational idea’s and use it within your space.  I look at all these rooms and think, I could copy this design on my shoestring budget.

You might not have a large budget for decorating , but I assure you, there is always a way to make your space just as beautiful.  Take inspiration from the color palate they use, or the types of furniture they choose. Keep your eye on things such as window treatments and light fixtures. There are such great resources for affordable decor. Places like Target, Ikea, and Home goods. I always frequent flea markets. You can find gems here!  And, don’t be afraid of a good DIY project!

This hotel is stunning and I am a huge fan of Philippe Starck. He is one of our worlds greatest designer’s. So, are you ready to decorate your home Parisian style? I dream someday of having a client want me to design them a Parisian apartment!

These beautiful pieces are all handcrafted by people from diverse artistic backgrounds. Sculptors, jewelers, artists, even actors are part of the Urban electric family.
They call this company “progressive”, It seems to me, they are using old fashion values to mold and run this fantastic company. They are going back to basics, simply working hard to create quality product here in america, while making sure their employees have a balanced lifestyle. How refreshing to know this can be done! This company oozes with integrity and pride in the products it gives to the world.

As you can see, their designs range from very traditional to modern and  they design fixtures for every living space. They use a fair amount of copper in their fixtures, which are, of course, all sourced from a manufacturer in the U.S.

They are one of the first lighting companies I go to for design inspiration when laying out a plan for a room. I love the timeless design, and you get quality with these products. Which means your home will enjoy them for generations.

Hotel Interior Inspiration – The NoMad Hotel NYC

Image

Today’s Interior Inspiration is coming from The NoMad Hotel in NYC. This turn of the century Beux-Arts building is complimented perfectly with the stunning interiors designed by Jacques Garcia, a french designer. All the rooms are classic and timeless.  The rooms are reminiscent of old grand European hotels and yet has a edginess that speaks of New York City.

I love all the rich textures throughout the rooms. Not to mention the gorgeous furniture and original  artwork Jacques has chosen. The high ceilings give these rooms such wonderful elegance. I think if I could only take one idea from these rooms to use in my own space, it would be the drapery. They give the room such a sense of sophistication. Paired with the high ceilings, they are breathtaking. What aspect of these rooms jumps out at you? Do you like the classic, traditional style of this space? How about that claw foot tub? I dream of owning one someday.

The NoMad also has a wonderful dinning room, where the roasted chicken was voted the best in NYC! Plus, they also feature a charming Library, where you can sit among books and sip on sophisticated cocktails.

How do these spaces make you feel? What would you take away as inspiration for designing your home? Always love to hear from you!

Rose Uniacke Interiors – Lonny Magazine

I love Lonny magazine. I was really excited to see one of my favorite interior designers featured, Rose Uniacke. I thinks she is one of Britain’s best designers. I love the minimalist approach she uses. Yet, somehow her designs always seem grand and luxurious. Lonny Magazine featured her work done for a British fragrance maker. He relocated his business to this classic 18th century town home, located in London’s West End. He said he chose Rose because she reflects elegance in her designs. This, as you can see would be a perfect fit for this stunning Georgian townhouse.

This large, grand, tole chandelier is the star of this room. I love the way the neutral palate softens this piece. The harmony and balance in this room is so exquisite.

I am always inspired by Rose Uniacke’s work. I love to study the rooms she designs and break down why it all works, then use her aesthetic approach in my work. I am partial to minimalist designs though. So, what do you see in the designs of her rooms that you would use? How do you feel about a minimalistic approach? If you have never heard of Rose, jump over and check out some more of her work here.
