Collecting

I am not one to hang on to “things”, or create collections of items. I have a great curiosity for those who have collections.  Is it the thrill of the hunt to find that piece that fits perfectly? Then swoon over it up on the shelf? I love seeing a beautiful collection of items. Whatever it may be, if it is styled right, it can be a stunning display in your home. Some may think “clutter” when they see to many items together. But as you will see below, it can be a beautiful thing.

I will admit, I have a newly found “obsession” with washi tape. I think it looks so pretty on display in my office. I put it on everything I get the chance to.

My other weakness, decorating magazines. I like keeping them in stacks around my house. Looks stylish and is a great reference to grab when I need to skim through something for inspiration.

Do you collect? There is a fine art to it, so I would love to here what your thoughts on collecting things are?

Heath Ceramics

My husband, Josh, (who is a super talented, up and coming chef).  I’m not just saying this because I love him, I’m his toughest critic. He is amazing. Haha, OK, I regress. He was telling me about all these great pieces of serving ware they use in his restaurant and other fine dining establishments. And, that I should feature some on the blog. Its funny, I have eaten at my fair share of wonderful restaurants and always love a great presentation. However, I never noticed the serving ware. Josh pointed out to me, the serving ware needs to be part of the statement, when plating your food. Heath Ceramics are one of his favorite lines.

This gorgeous line has been around since the 1940′s. They are based out of Sausalito, Ca. Every one of their pieces is still made in the same factory where it all started. Theirs is a line of serving ware that will never be a trend. They have a classic design that will make it through all generations. Not to mention the outstanding quality of their products. Every piece you see has clearly been made with a great deal of thought and intention. This is why they have stayed successful.

My husband being a huge fan of their designs, used Heath to plate up his pork dish. This was served at a recent pop-up dinner he did with a few of this fellow chefs. Looks gorgeous, and compliments his food so beautifully!

Not only do they have gorgeous classic serving ware, they also have a fairly broad home decor line. Vases, candles, lighting, ceramic house numbers and even textiles!

Someday, I will have to add this beautiful serving collection to my home. Its clean lines and basic colors make me so happy. Jump over to their site, they have so many wonderful items! Have a great Wednesday!

Exposed Light Bulbs

I was flipping through a few of my decorating magazines last night and noticed a lot of exposed bulbs used in lighting. It makes such a simple, raw statement. Like, yes, I am not wearing a shade! What are you going to do about it! Haha, maybe not. I think it does make a bold statement though. Its wonderful when an antique lamp or pendant has been refurbished with a beautiful Edison bulb. Don’t you agree? I scooped this one up at a antique market a while back.

As I was researching for this post, I noticed the large selection of these pieces on Etsy. Here are a few of my favorites.

Not, to mention the amazing home accessories and furnishings they sell. I don’t want to get off track, but check out all they have to offer. You will want it all!

I think exposed bulbs work with any style. It all depends on the fixture. You could have a completely traditional home and add a cluster of exposed bulb pendants, say, over your dinning table and this would set your style apart from most.

See what I mean? Traditional setting with a modern fixture, so harmonious. This beauty is from West Elm.

Have a lovely weekend.

Shelf Worthy

Hope your week has been going well. I thought today it might be fun to share with you a few new books I just added to my library.   I could not be happier with all of these. Its a pretty well rounded collection that I choose this month. Interior styling, a dose of history and philosophy of the home and a guide to homesteading for a city dweller. These will keep me busy for a while.

Details by Lili Diallo is a must have on any home lovers shelf! She has done a beautiful job breaking down how to style your home properly. I love that she stresses that “details” in a room, make the room. The interior photography in this book will knock your socks off. So much inspiration!

The Decoration of House by Edith Wharton. The beginnings of Interior Design. A must read for any student of Interior Decoration.

Finally, The City Homesteader written by Scott Meyer. This one pulls at my heart strings. I grew up on a property that you could call an “urban farm” right outside of Los Angles. Since I moved from home, one of my biggest goals has been to be able to live off my property as much as possible. We can all be self sufficient in some manner. I love this book. Scott gives detailed instructions and many options on how you can be self sufficient on any size property. Even a balcony!

Hope you enjoy them as much as I have. You can grab all these great books on Amazon.

Have a great Thursday!
