While we were in London, we had the pleasure of visiting the Ace Hotel in Shoreditch. The London based interior and architectural firm, Universal Design Studio, were the creative minds behind giving the Ace Hotel Shoreditch the distinict style that it deserves. Shoreditch was a very suitable neighborhood for the Ace Hotel. It is a hub for leading galleries, theatre’s, fashion and street atrists. The Shoreditch neighborhood has quite the artisinal past. During the Industrial Revolution it was the center for textile and furniture design and most impressivly, the theatre in which Shakespeare’s first play was performed happened right here in Shoreditch. Today, those artisanal qualities still run deep within the creative entreprenuers that populate this town.
These rooms are contemporary and cosmopolitan and reflect the creative culture that thrives in Shoreditch.
The lobby was designed with social interaction in mind. Its a really versatile room, that encourages activity. The long table is meant to be used as a common work space, and exclusively designed for The Ace Hotel Shoreditch by Benchmark.
The restaurant attached is named Hoi Polloi, a modern english brasserie. Hoi Polloi, literally meaning ” the masses or common people” screams The Ace Hotel style! I felt very at ease sitting in this well designed, humble little brasserie. I will hang out with the common people any day! These “common people” are most always the ones coming up with innovative, inspiring ideas. Hoi Polloi is just lovely and I highly recommend eating here. The food was fresh and creative and delicious. Hope you enjoyed peeking into the guest rooms of the Ace Hotel London! Have a wonderful week! xoxo
Hello my friends. Just wanted to touch base after being absent from Girl and the Abode for the past few weeks. I know I promised more posting…time has a funny way of getting away from us. I do have some fun news though. I am leaving to jump across the pond to Europe for two weeks. We will be spending time in London, Amsterdam, Berlin and Copenhagen. When I get home I will share with you all our adventures. We will be exploring some of the best parts of each one of these cities, so stay tuned! My husband, being a chef, has made reservations at some of these cities best restaurants! The biggest and most exciting one…NOMA in Copenhagen! I am also very excited to share with you that while I am in London, I am meeting up with a few fellow bloggers. Doris (Diary of an Interior Novice) and Monika (secretgardenhome), a mini blogger meet up, if you will. We all connected while taking one of Holly Becker’s Blogging Your Way courses. Also, The Ace Hotel London is opening today, and I was lucky enough to get a tour scheduled of the rooms and the hopefully the kitchen (fingers crossed)! So, I will be doing a article about that when I get home!
Bon Voyage! See you back here in a couple weeks! XOXO Lauren
Hi Everyone. As you can see, I have been neglecting my blog here for the past few weeks. Life has been exceptionally busy, with working full time, trying to build a business, worrying about family matters, and traveling, I have had no extra time for blogging. I apologize for this… I know I get disappointed when the blogs I read get a little inactive. I have learned one thing. Moving forward, I will probably take two months off during the summer. This seems to be the most chaotic time for me. I do plan to be back to regular posting next Monday. This is a holiday week for us and I am going to use it to get a bit caught up. In the meantime, check out the “Blogs I Read” in the sidebar, they inspire me and I am sure you will feel the same. I hope you all have been having a great summer and I will see you back here next week.
Hello my friends! I hope you are all having a lovely week. If you have not noticed, my posting has been a bit irregular lately. I have had quite a few things come up in the past month. Some great things and some not so great things. I guess this is what we call “life”. Haha. I have been hard at work building our Organizing and Interior Styling business, and I have been spending some of this time analyzing Girl and the Abode and what my goals are for the future of this little decorating blog. I have found so much joy in creating this space for myself to write about things I have passion for, and enjoyed connecting with other wonderful bloggers. I have many great ideas and many things to learn. I am so grateful for you who follow me here. I will continue to strive to make Girl and the Abode a wonderful, peaceful little spot you can come escape to.
I would like to talk of gratitude for a moment. Gratitude means being thankful for something, or many things. Thankful for having a wonderful family, a successful career, a roof over your head, or being able to walk on your own two feet! Gratitude is one of the most important qualities we can develop within ourselves. It is a quality that will get us through most hard times in life. Look at what you HAVE in your life that is good, be grateful for that! I believe if you are always grateful for your life, you will appreciate it and cherish it even more.
I am extremely close to my family. I am grateful everyday, for every moment I share with them. To me this is what matters most in my life. Last night, I lost my grandfather. I am stricken with sadness. This, though, is where I try to bring in gratitude. I have to be grateful for every moment I shared with him, all the laughs we had together. He had a killer sense of humor. He will be in my heart as long as it beats. I love him so very much.
Please, be grateful for the simple yet most important things in life, the people in it. I will not be doing any of my regular columns for the next week. I may post something, if I feel up to it. I just want to spend time with my family at this point. See you back here soon.
