Project: Blog Makeover

I am currently enrolled in Holly Becker’s e-course , Blogging Your Way. First of all, I can not speak highly enough to you on how beneficial this course is to any person with a blog, or interested in learning the business of blogging. The best way to learn is from someone who did it all from the beginning. Holly knows her stuff.

We get homework assignments every week, last weeks was to create a inspiration board compiled of images that will help us focus on what we would like our blog to look like. I can’t stress enough the importance of this exercise for any creative venture you are trying to achieve. Wether it is trying to focus your style for a blog or for planning your wedding day or someone else’s. It is one of the best ways to turn an idea into reality.

So I just gathered a collection of paper, fabric, buttons, yarn, ribbons, anything that had a look of what I was trying to achieve. I started with a pretty large pile of inspirational items. I began to put my board together , it took me a few days to get the look I was finally happy with. I worked on it for a few minutes everyday. This enabled me to think, do i really like this look? It is a creative process that you just have to go wIth. It takes some time to tweak it just the way you like it. I will probably end up changing things a little more still.

Feelings on Fall

I personally love this time of year. I love that we get to transition from wearing sundresses and swim suits to cozy sweaters and coats. Although, here in California it is mostly sweaters. I love traveling to the east coast in October. Probably because we don’t ever get seasons here in California to their degree. I love the food this time of year. Warm soups and hearty turkey dinners. I always feel like baking pies and warm scones in the Fall and Winter. Its a refreshing change from the salads we eat all summer long.

It has not yet begun to feel like fall here yet. So I thought a table set up with a “Fall” theme in the orchard might be a fun way to pretend.

I think I will make a roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and rustic bread. Seems appropriate to me.

What do you love about this season? The Fall and Winter in particular? Do you change up your home decor to be more fall appropriate? Maybe some new throws or pillows? Perhaps some pumpkins or gourds on display? I love to add a few “fall” feeling items around my home.

Do what you Love!

I just came across this fantastic website that encourages and promotes doing what you love. Life is too short to be working day in, and day out, doing something that is not fulfilling. I speak from experience. I am not working in the industry I dream of. I am fortunate to work with people I respect and enjoy, but, I have always had a dream of working in the interior design business. For many reasons, it never happened. Well, it is time, I am pursuing what I really was meant to be doing. Life can get in the way of your dreams, you just have to make sure to put them first and always strive to be what you are completely capable of being. Life this way will be a happier place. Enjoy everyday. Work, Family, Love, Home….. Create the life you dream of. Most of all, strive for simplicity. Simple can mean less, thats ok. My sister and I have this love / amusement with styling parties. We sit around and chat over wine about what our next table setting will look like. ( nerdy, I know.)

We have often dreamt of opening a little event styling business…maybe someday. Until then we will just keep creating ideas for you.
