I have been transitioning this past year into the career I always wanted to have. Like a lot of us out there, I got distracted early on and ended up working in an industry that just was not me. That said, even though I am now working in the industry I always dreamt of, I still need to inspire myself to keep motivated.
The interior deign world is an exciting one, with a lot to inspire us. So, fortunetly it is not too hard to keep motivated.
But, we still need to seek it out. Here are a few things I have done to keep myself motivated.
I love reading blogs. I am the most inspired by others ideas and creativeness. I love authentic people. There is nothing better. This keeps me motivated above all else. I do this almost everyday. A few favorites of mine are:
This past year I have also been working on my blog. Trying to learn how to post creative and fun ideas, and my thoughts on home. Along with trying to grow readership. Last March, I signed up for Holly Beckers E-Course, Blogging your Way. What a wonderful source of inspiration! You get to interact with so many like mined wonderful bloggers. I am on my third round of her courses starting March 1st. I totally reccomend doing this. It will keep you going when you want to quit. I promise!
Workshops are a wonderful way to learn more in your industry and become a more well rounded person. Check out your local university or community college. They might have a fantastic photography class, or a writing class that can sharpen some of your skills. I just signed up for a color theory workshop at UCLA Extension that I could not be more excited about. We all have to keep learning new things or refreshing the things we already know. This will keep us inspired, on our toes, and able to inspire others. Thats really what we are here to do, right?
Books. Almost everyday I pick up a design book and flip through it. I always end up finding some new idea that I did not catch previously. Start building your design library. Subscribe to some design magazines while you are at it. This is another way to stay in tune with our beautiful design world.
Those are a few things that keep me going, I would love to hear how you keep your self motivated. Do you have an tricks to get yourself out of a lazy spell? What do you do to get yourself in a creative mood? Please do share! I love to hear from you!
Hope you have a relaxing weekend!
